Attorney Eric McDonald is the lead Criminal Defense Attorney for Compass Legal Services, overseeing our criminal defense division, Kitsap Criminal Defense.  Attorney McDonald also provides client representation for legal matters pertaining to Landlord Tenant law (tenant representation), and many types of civil litigation matters involving property ownership and breach of contract.  He also assists clients with employment discrimination matters including those filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Additionally, he provides legal counsel for immigration matters.

Attorney Eric McDonald started in the legal field in 1994. A graduate of the InterAmerican Law School, San Juan Puerto Rico, Magna-Cum-Laude, Attorney McDonald honorably served twenty-one years in the U.S. Navy retiring in 2014 from the Navy Judge Advocate General Corps. Attorney McDonald provided our service members with advice in both in the military justice and family law fields. He now practices family, estate planning and criminal justice law.

Attorney McDonald is bilingual, speaking both English and Spanish. As a native Spanish speaking attorney in Kitsap County, Mr. McDonald works has worked with Spanish speaking clients from numerous Spanish speaking countries, easily traversing multiple dialects.  A native of Puerto Rico, not only did Attorney McDonald grow up speaking both English and Spanish as a first language, he attended Law School at the InterAmerican Law School in San Jaun, receiving the majority of his legal education in Spanish.  Such experience allows him to communicate with actual fluency with his Spanish speaking clients.

In the twenty-one years he served in the Navy JAG Corps Attorney McDonald developed strong litigation skills, tackling diverse issues unique to our military family. He has also represented Soldiers and Officers at Administrative Separation Boards, Boards of Inquiry, and during the appeal process before the Navy and Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeal and the Court of Appeals of the Armed Forces.

Attorney McDonald has provided legal counsel to military service members and their family on consumer complaints, tax law, estate planning, landlord-tenant issues, immigration law and even interstate conflict of law issues regarding child support and custody issues. Attorney McDonald has also had experience in assisting his clients with immigration issues raining from obtaining a Legal Permanent Resident card to asylum protection. His extensive involvement in these legal fields allows him to help clients understand their legal situation.

Attorney McDonald also supports the local legal aid clinic (Kitsap Legal Services).

Mr. McDonald is a member of good standing of the Puerto Rico, District of Columbia and Washington State Bars, Kitsap County Bar Association, U.S. District Court for Puerto Rico, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces as well as the Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeal. He is Chair of WSBA Legal Assistance to Military Personnel (LAMP) Section.
